Finding Pickleball Courts in Australia: Equipment, Clubs, and Social Play

Archived guide: Baylan & Co no longer sells pickleball equipment. This article is kept for reference. Read about our range change and support for existing orders.

Finding the right first session starts with a few practical questions: where can you play, is the session suitable for beginners, and what equipment is provided?

Start with a court directory

Pickleball Australia’s Where to Play map lists venues offering pickleball. Use it to find nearby options, then confirm session times, booking requirements and prices directly with the venue.

Ask before you book

  • Is this an introductory class, social session or competitive match?
  • Can an individual join, or must you bring a partner or group?
  • Are paddles and balls provided?
  • Is the court indoors or outdoors, and what happens if weather interrupts play?
  • What is the full session cost and cancellation policy?

For your first visit, choose a session that explicitly welcomes beginners. A short conversation with the organiser is more useful than assuming every listing offers the same format.

Check community and recreation venues

If the nearest listed court is too far away, ask local recreation centres and tennis clubs whether they host pickleball or know a nearby group. Confirm that a suitable court and net are available before arranging a game.

Pack for your session

Follow the venue’s footwear requirements and bring water. For an outdoor session, plan for the weather and sun. Ask the organiser which ball suits their surface. If you are bringing your own equipment, check how many paddles are needed: two players need two paddles, while four-player doubles needs four.

Buying a starter set

Choose a kit by its listed contents and specifications. A carry bag helps keep paddles and balls together, but it does not mean a net is included. Compare the complete setup you need rather than just the kit price.
